Program areas at Rock Hill Symphony Orchestra

Performing professional symphony orchestra concerts for the general public. RHSO completed its second season in June of 2020. Each season RHSO provides Rock Hill and the surrounding communities with cultural enrichment by providing three Masterworks concerts. These concerts showcase worldrenowned soloists and many other talented musicians both locally and nationally. RHSO put on its first Holiday Concert in 2019 featuring a collaboration with the Rock Hill Ecumenical Choir and the York County Choral Society
Offering outreach concerts and programs at area elementary schools. In addition to live concerts, RHSO has a Symphony in Schools program servicing K-12. The program is curriculum-based education concerts that serve to introduce K-5 students in 20 schools to the various string instruments and how they are played, along with historical background on the music and composers, and extended curriculum connections. RHSO Musicians and local middle school orchestra teachers collaborate on ways to assist 6th grade beginning string students to achieve success in their initial year of learning to play their instrument. Workshops, sectional rehearsals and master classesat the local high schools can address such needs as experience in creative improvisation (a curriculum standard that is often neglected), advanced bowing and fingering techniques on all instruments, fine points of good ensemble playing, intonation and blend, as well as rhythmic accuracy within the ensemble. Additionally, individual attention and mentoring can be provided for those students who need it by having a team of RHSO musicians and orchestra teachers working together.
