Program areas at Rocky Mountain Innocence Center
We had a client released through da negotiation efforts after he served more than 20 years confinement for a crime he did not commit. Rmic was awarded a highly-competitive multi-year federal grant for its Nevada casework, allowing us to hire two additonal full-time employees. These new additions have grown rmic's paid staff to the largest amount it has ever been. In 2023, our staff made a total of 21 trips outside of salt lake city to investigate and litigate these cases. These 21 trips included a parole board hearing, 18 client visits, 20 correctional-facility visits, 8 court hearings, 5 crime scene visits, 219 knocked doors for attempted witness contact, and 95 witness interviews spanning from Oregon, Oklahoma, and throughout Utah, Nevada, and California.
