EDUCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS AND PROGRAMSDuring the 20 years since the inception of the RCWS scholarship program, the number of participants has grown from 3 in the 2003-2004 academic year to 200 in 2021-2022. In 2022, RCWS was supporting 154 - 200 students in the Pskov, Yaroslavl, Moscow and the North Caucasus regions, allocating a total of $228,707. Majority of the students are orphans and they cannot rely on parents or relatives for any financial support. The RCWS scholarship recipients receive a monthly stipend for living expenses, enabling better focus on their studies. RCWS requires academic transcripts from each scholarship recipient, as well as reports on the use of the stipend to assure accountability. In summer 2022, 44 RCWS scholarship recipients graduated and received diplomas.The Educational Center "Big Change", Moscow Since 2002 the Center helps orphaned children and youth find their place in life, receive education, develop confidence, gain knowledge and practical experience to smoothly transition into adulthood and integrate into society. The pandemic and the economic crisis have become a serious test for all, and for children who grew up at the orphanages in particular. In 2022, RCWS allocated $9,998 towards the project "Learning to communicate and gain new knowledge" to help orphanage graduates better adapt and interact during the pandemic. The project includes meetings, consultations, conferences and educational activities for children at the Center's Theater "Playback Studio", Travel Club, Theater Club, English Club and Book Club. Tutaev School, Yaroslavl regionEstablished in 1991, the Tutaev School continues to provide 11 years of secondary education to 110 children from low-income families. Additionally, the school assists students in cultivating their creativity by offering art classes, sculpture workshops, choir singing and music classes, theater, journalism club, among other activities. In 2022, RCWS awarded $16,052 towards 6 laptops, 2 printers, 2 projectors, school furniture, books, sports equipment, kitchen appliances, art supplies, and renovation expenses. Rybinsk Gymnasia named after Serafim Vyritsii, Yaroslavl RegionThe Rybinsk Gymnasia was established in 2011. Currently, 130 children are studying at the Rybinsk Gymnasia. Majority of the students are from low-income families. The Gymnasia provides general education in conjunction with the spiritual and moral upbringing. In 2022, RCWS provided $3,598 to fully equip the Physics classroom.OTHER EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMSIn 2022, the RCWS San Francisco office supported the following Russian schools in the United States: Burlingame All Russian Saints School - $2,000; Saints Cyril and Methodius High School in San Francisco - $3,000.
ORPHANAGESRCWS goal is to enable orphanages to meet basic needs, and to promote comprehensive programs that help orphans grow to be healthy and independent adults. Potma Orphanage, Republic of Mordovia The Potma Orphanage was established in 1975 and provides housing, education and medical care to children with special needs. In 2022, RCWS granted $9,862 to the Orphanage towards the linens and non-perishable foods, such as sugar, salt, vegetable oil, groats and juices.Opochka School and Orphanage, Pskov regionThe Opochka Orphanage provides education and care to over 100 children. In addition to the main classes, children spend time in playrooms, learn to interact with their friends, watch movies, and read books. The playrooms at the orphanage were equipped a long time ago; the furniture was worn out and needed to be replaced. To create comfortable conditions for children, it was necessary to purchase new furniture, tables, carpets, etc.In 2022, RCWS provided $5,000 to the Orphanage to replace furniture at the orphanage's playrooms.Pushkinogorodski School and Orphanage, Pskov region Currently, 85 children study at the Pushkinogorski School and Orphanage, of which 52 students live at the orphanage. Students, who live at the orphanage, have limited opportunities to develop skills necessary in everyday life. In 2022, RCWS allocated $5,000 to equip a living room at the orphanage allowing children to obtain independent living skills, practice different tasks of everyday life, learn how to use home appliances, improve socialization of students.Opochka Specialized Orphanage for children with special needs, Pskov region Opochka Specialized Orphanage for children with special needs currently houses and educates 80 children from 6 to 18 years of age. In order to store medication for children, the orphanage needs to purchase a refrigerator. Some furniture is missing in the children's living room (sofa, TV), which will help to create a home like environment and make it more comfortable for the children.In 2022, RCWS provided $5,147 to improve conditions of the living /group rooms at the orphanage where children spend a lot of their time. Orphanage for children with special needs in Shatura, Moscow regionFounded in 2001, the Orphanage for children with special needs located in Shatura, Moscow region provides 1st to 9th grades education to 180 children with various disabilities. Shatura Orphanage provides residence to 25 children with severe disabilities from remote towns and villages, as well as children on wheelchairs who find it difficult to travel to school every day. For such children, it is important to create comfortable living conditions at the school-orphanage, in compliance with sanitary standards and requirements.In 2022, RCWS awarded $8,878 to improve the Orphanage's facility and create more homelike environment, including renovation work - to put new wallpaper, lay linoleum, and paint the ceiling. Krasnogorodski Orphanage for children with special needs, Pskov regionIn 2022, RCWS allocated $5,000 towards the project "Learning to live independently", focused on helping students with special needs, left without parental care, to develop skills important for independent life, social integration, communication with others. RCWS aid covered purchase of furniture, equipment, kitchen utensils, etc. The program includes psychological and pedagogical support of students, providing them with accommodation in a two-room apartment located in the orphanage. This project allows children to feel independent, since soon they will have to take care of themselves, solve numerous problems, buy food, cook, wash clothes, organize their leisure, etc.Orphanage "Pechora Center Assisting Children Left without Parental Care", Pskov Region The Orphanage "Pechora Center Assisting Children Left without Parental Care" currently houses 60 children ages 3 to 18 years old. In 2022, RCWS allocated $5,000 to equip 5 groups of students with technical means to improve distance learning and computer literacy of children, covering the cost of 5 computers, 3 printers and presentation remotes.Children's Health Camp "Rocket", Voronezh region In 2022, RCWS allocated $5,037 towards food, sport equipment (6 bicycles), hygiene supplies and recreational activities for 68 children. This project was administered by Rusfond.St. Alexis School & Orphanage, Yaroslavl region The St. Alexis School & Orphanage was established in 1992 to serve orphaned and disadvantaged children. During 2022, the St. Alexis community was taking care of 265 children. The St. Alexis School has all necessary government licenses and accreditation, being ranked as one of the best schools in Central Russia. St. Alexis community consists of the Orphanage, St. Alexis School, Cadets Corps, Vocational School, and the School of Arts. St. Alexis School is the only school in the region which provides an education, room and board, and counseling free of charge for those in need. In 2022, RCWS allocated $10, 092 to St. Alexis School & Orphanage towards food for the children covering pasta, rice, buckwheat, vegetable oil, fruits, etc. Additionally, in 2022 RCWS provided an emergency assistance of $10,177 to cover shoes for students, heating, electricity and other utilities. Pskov Children's Fund, Pskov region Established in 1988, the Pskov Children's Fund main mission is to support children in underserved areas of the region by assisting institutions that receive little government support. In 2022, RCWS allocated $5,147 towards 100 sets of underwear, 40 sets of hygiene products, 10 boxes of diapers for babies, 100 pairs of shoes, 200 pairs of slippers, stationery (art supplies, albums, markers and pencils), board games to assist 84 children aged 2 to 18 years residing at the sanatorium "Blue Lakes".Nikolo-Solbinsky Orphanage (Solba), Yaroslavl RegionIn 2007 the Solba Orphanage for girls was established, which is the only facility of this kind in the entire region. It provides girls not only with food, clothes and medical treatment but also with secondary and professional education. Currently, 160 girls (from birth to 18 years of age) reside at the Orphanage. The Solba includes the Social and Rehabilitation Center, School and College, offering the vocational training programs.Recently, the Solba established a Medical Center, which includes the offices of a physician, pediatrician, ENT, ultrasound, gynecologist, neurologist, dentist, and physiotherapist. In 2021, the Solba's Medical Center received a license allowing it to provide medical care. The Solba's Medical Center provides assistance and treatment free of charge to those who need it. In 2022, RCWS allocated $15,758 towards the physiotherapy equipment for the Solba's Medical Center.
MEDICAL PROGRAMS "GIVE BEAUTY BACK TO THE CHILDREN"- PEDIATRIC MAXILLOFACIAL SURGERY FUNDIn 2010, RCWS launched "Give Beauty Back to the Children," in partnership with Professor Vitaly Roginsky, Head of the Moscow Center for Maxillofacial Surgery (MCMS) and Lev Ambinder, Head of the Rusfond. MCMS is one of the most innovative facilities in Russia providing treatment and rehabilitation for children with facial deformities. In 2022, through our partnership with the MCMS and Rusfond, RCWS assisted 97 children from low income families and orphanages in need of complex maxillofacial surgeries. In 2022, RCWS allocated $100,000 towards this project. Through our partnership with Rusfond an additional $305,527 was provided to MCMS from donors in Russia. The average cost per surgery is in the range of $2,500-$5,000. The hospital has a waiting list of children and relies on RCWS support.COVID-19 Russia Relief FundIn spring 2020 in response to the epidemic, RCWS joined the efforts of the Rusfond and established the COVID-19 Russia Relief Fund to help save young patients, protect medics treating infected patients and to equip hospitals with critically needed protective gear.Irkutsk Regional Children's Clinical Hospital, IrkutskDue to the continued spread of coronavirus infection, the Irkutsk Regional Children's Clinical Hospital requested equipment to disinfect the air, provide personal protective equipment for doctors and antibiotics to treat patients.In 2022, RCWS allocated $4,795 towards the two Air recirculation machines, 400 FFP2 masks, 170 SARS-Cov19 Express test, and antibiotics. Psychoneurological Hospital for children with damage to the central nervous system and special needs, MoscowThe hospital provides assistance and on-site consultations to children's clinics, orphanages, specialized preschool institutions and school-orphanages of the Moscow region. The hospital urgently needed additional supplies for administering the COVID-19 tests. In 2022, RCWS allocated $3,225 to cover 150 SARS-CoV-2 testing reagents. Regional Children's Clinical Hospital, Department of Palliative Care, Rostov-on-Don, Rostov regionChildren with the most severe diagnosis are being treated in the Department of Palliative Care. To minimize the risk of spreading the coronavirus infection and assist children with severe complications due to COVID, the Department needs gloves for medical professionals and catheters.In 2022, RCWS awarded $2,150 to cover 4,000 medical gloves and 3 Central Venous Catheters. Children's Clinical Hospital, Ufa, Republic of BashkortostanThe hospital is a large medical center with a capacity of 700 beds. Annually about 20,000 children are hospitalized, more than 6,000 surgeries are performed, over 65,000 children receive consultations. The hospital also assists newborn children with pathology of the respiratory system with very low and extremely low body weight. To treat such patients, the hospital required inhalation therapy equipment: nebulizers with a pediatric adapter and a control unit regulating the inhalation time. In 2022, RCWS awarded $4,830 towards 2 Nebulizer AeronebPro, 2 Control units with a limitation of inhalation time AG-AP 1500-IN for a nebulizer. Approximately 600 children a year will benefit from this project. OTHER MEDICALKrasnoyarski Regional Clinical Center for Maternal and Child Health, Krasnoyarsk In 2022, RCWS awarded $10,000 to the Krasnoyarski Regional Clinical Center for Maternal and Child Health located in Krasnoyarsk. This is the leading healthcare facility in the region, which includes the Children's Hospital and the Perinatal Center.The hospital's new Department of Bone Marrow Transplant, established in 2023, required additional equipment - reinforced mobile stands and consoles necessary to combine infusion pumps into a single system. Such infusion pumps are used for long-term and controlled administration of medications during the treatment of cancer patients.The capacity of the Department will allow up to 40 bone marrow transplants per year. It will help treat children with cancer diagnosis who urgently need help. In order to ensure the effective and safe administration of medicine that patients receive during the treatment of leukemia, automatic infusion stations were needed, which are not covered by the state funding.RCWS aid covered: special equipment to ensure the simultaneous operation of 8 infusion pumps, to administer medication necessary for the treatment of children (2 pcs.); reinforced mobile stands to ensure safe use of infusion pumps (2 pcs.).
REHABILITATION CENTERS FOR CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDSRehabilitation Center "Krug", MoscowEstablished in 1989, the Rehabilitation Center "Krug" provides educational, rehabilitation, and recreational programs for children with special needs. The Center's programs are designed to help the participants gradually integrate into society while understanding how to best manage their disabilities. A vital aspect to children's development, particularly those with autism spectrum disorders, is travel. When children are introduced to new environments and are culturally stimulated, they become noticeably engaged and joyful. In 2022, RCWS provided $5,205 to the Center to cover summer rehabilitation program and travel for children with special needs and their parents (10 children and their parents). Teachers are working not only with children, but also with their parents teaching them coping mechanism, providing support and opportunity to meet other families. A summer trip to the retreat is the completion of the annual rehabilitation cycle. Rehabilitation Center "Nelishnie Deti", MoscowEstablished in 2007, the Rehabilitation Center "Nelishnie Deti" provides psychological assistance to families and children in crisis, offers workshops, family trips and counseling. In 2022, RCWS awarded $10,286 to the Center "Nelishnie Deti" to support its on-going programs in three different locations: Center for Psychological and Educational Support in Moscow; Center for Psychological Support for Families affected by the terrorist attack in Beslan; Center for at-risk families in Inozemtsevo (Stavropol region). Over 70 families in Moscow, 350 children in Beslan and 170 families in Inozemzevo participate in this project. Rehabilitation Center "Inspiration" in Moscow regionRehabilitation Center "Inspiration" was founded in 1999 to help children with special needs adapt to life and become independent. Among the Center's on-going programs are Theater Studio, hippo therapy program, vocational training studio, school preparatory classes, speech therapy, etc.In 2022, RCWS allocated $10,000 to the Rehabilitation Center "Inspiration" towards food for 40 children during 6 months and to cover heating expenses during winter. OTHERInternational Charitable Foundation named after Vladimir Spivakov, MoscowThe Spivakov Foundation was established in 1994 by celebrated concert pianist Vladimir Spivakov to help disadvantaged children in Russia blossom both musically and artistically.In 2022, RCWS allocated $10,101 to cover accommodation, transportation expenses and meals for children attending the XIX "Moscow Welcomes Friends" Festival. Over 1,000 gifted children from various parts of Russia participated. Additionally, RCWS provides scholarships to 25 talented young musicians affiliated with the Spivakov Foundation.YELKA ANNUAL NEW YEAR AND CHRISTMAS CELEBRATIONIn December 2022, the RCWS Moscow team delivered Christmas gifts to 3,000 children from 32 organizations in Pskov, Yaroslavl, Kislovodsk, Ryazan, Kostroma, Novomoskovsk, Moscow & Moscow region. RCWS shipments with Christmas gifts were delivered to all the recipients. Among the recipient organizations are 8 orphanages located in the Pskov region, St. Alexis School & Orphanage and Solba Orphanage in Yaroslavl region, Potma Orphanage in Mordovia, Pervomaisky Orphanage in Kostroma, St. Nicholas School in Kislovodsk, Moscow Center for Maxillofacial Surgery, Rehabilitation Center "Nelishnie Deti" in Beslan and Moscow, Children's Hospital #12 in Moscow, Tutaev School, Center "GORDI" for children with Down Syndrome in Ryazan, Rubinsk Gymnasium, Spivakov Foundation, Center "Krug" in Moscow, School in Novomoskovsk, Rehabilitation Center "Inspiration" in Moscow region, Foundation "Life in Motion", Center "Kupel" in Moscow. For most of these children it is the only present they will receive throughout the year.
