Program areas at Ryan Cameron Foundation
Leadership academy - the Ryan Cameron leadership academy (rcfla) is a life-changing program that focuses on engaging youth in academic development and life skills needed to become future leaders with 31 graduates. The curriculum is based upon seven modules: public speaking, college prep, responsible citizenship, arts/self expression and self realization, financial literacy, leadership 101 and etiquette. Youth are selected during their 9th grade year through an application and essay process. Rcfla is an 8-year program that equips participants with techniques and resources needed to assist them with a healthy transition in high school and throughout college. Participants meet monthly to develop the discipline needed to master the skills in the 7 modules.
Anti-violence safe teen driving program - this initiative was designed to address the crisis in our communities and schools in the atlanta metropolitan area. The topics most recently discussed are: safe teen driving, bullying, gang violence, domestic violence, and sex trafficking. Much like our healthy lifestyles initiative, rcf executes monthly anti-violence in-community appearances. The culmination is rcf's annual anti-violence contest & forum; which engage a network of over 90 schools and communities through incentivized participation. The contest and forum engages youth in town hall meetings, discussion groups & team-building exercises. Parents attend the forum with their children and participate in separate workshops. In 2015, 24,465 were served.
Healthy lifestyle program - this initiative was designed to challenge and change childhood obesity statistics in the atlanta metropolitan area. Through monthly community events, walk and run, and the culmination program of the annual youth health fair, rcf empowers participants to make healthier lifestyle choices. Our healthy lifestyle programs serve nearly 50,000 youth and families to provide a years worth of free medical and dental services. Participants can register for the walk run and all receive an "in-home gym" along with various mechanisms for lifestyle change with items such as a hula-hoop, jump rope or a portion controlled lunch box. In 2015, 27,247 were served.
Youth golf clinic - the game of golf is introduced to atlanta youth with a beginner's golf clinic instructed by pga golf pros. Youth spend the day playing 9-hole foursome game of golf with their adult mentor. Mentors for the day are some of atlanta's finest professionals. A set of golf clubs along with an annual pass are gifted to each participant. Youth are honored at a luncheon and receive encouraging words from a motivational speaker. Holiday giving - for the past 6 years rcf and porsche cars north america provide 20 local foster children and their families with holiday cheer through fellowship, food, and gifts at our annual christmas community outreach, "holiday giving". Twenty families are selected to attend a special celebratory evening full of fun, show, games, and activities as they are surprised with a presentation of items from their christmas wish lists. Environmental - rcf is committed to our environment by executing quarterly adopt a highway clean ups as well as establishing and maintaining a community garden. This initiative serves as an opportunity for people of all ages to join together to improve our environment and economic empowerment. Scholarships - the Foundation has awarded scholarships to various recipients as described in part i. The Foundation is currently not accepting new scholarship applications but maintaining those recipients already in the program.
