Program areas at Sacramento Region Performing Arts Alliance
This past year, the Sacramento philharmonic & opera (sp&o) continued to produce performances from the safe credit union Performing Arts center (safe pac). In the 2022-23 season, we performed 7 performances, including two operas for the first season in our merged organizational history. We performed beloved works by composers such as stravinsky, mozart, beethoven, ravel, and puccini, and averaged 1,750 tickets sold per concert. As part of these performances, we also were able to engage our sp&o chorus for three chorus engagements, including mozart's mass with our newly designated principal conductor and artistic advisor ari pelto.
Additionally, in the 2022-23 season, we were able to return to in-person music education program, link up - the sp&o's flagship education program. The program ended in march 2023 when thousands of title 1 students came down to the safe pac to perform what they learned live with the sp&o musicians. The excitement was palpable, as the thousands of students sang, danced, and played recorder while a screen above the stage cycled through pieces of music. Everyone had a wonderful time!
In addition to our seven performances, the Sacramento philharmonic & opera was also able to provide music via other performance opportunities. We provided the live music for all 8 live performances of the Sacramento nutcracker, playing for 16,000 patrons throughout the course of the performances. We performed live in concert with andrea bocelli at the golden 1 center, Performing for more than 12,000 attendees. And, we continued our tradition of playing live music for Sacramento's run to feed the hungry, in which we performed for more than 30,000 runners at the run.
