Sacramento Valley Manufacturing Alliance strives to build a robust manufacturing sector in the Sacramento region. It aligns with and assists education and training providers to develop a highly skilled workforce for the 21st-century manufacturing industry. SVMA has partnerships with local high schools and colleges, along with its own technical learning center on the Charles A Jones Education Center campus. The center boasts manual and CNC mills and lathes for practical training.

Program areas at Sacramento Valley Manufacturing Alliance

The Sacramento Valley Manufacturing Alliance (SVMA) was formed by the region's manufacturers to address the need for a qualified and well-trained workforce.SVMAs efforts to expand the talent pipeline of people entering the manufacturing workforce are focused on four primary areas: Collaboration with our regional high school and community college advanced manufacturing programs to increase the number of young people pursuing manufacturing as a career pathway. Development of workforce programs to up-skill the incumbent workforce including the development of apprenticeship programs. Support for adult education programs which train people for careers in manufacturing. Professional development programs for all manufacturers in the region.2023 Education Highlights Included: SVMA members hosted tours for 12 high-school classes. SVMA members participated in 11 high school and community college career technical education advisory meetings. SVMA members participated in 6 job fairs. SVMA members participated in 7 college & career fairs. SVMA members hosted 30 summer interns (2023).2023 Workforce Development Highlights Included: SVMA launched the SVMA CNC Machinist Apprenticeship Program with 5 employers and 6 apprentices enrolled. SVMA collaborated with Folsom Lake College and received funding to develop a Quality Control Technician Apprenticeship Program. Apprenticeship standards were submitted in April 2024, anticipating approval by July 2024 and formally launching program in Q4 2024.Membership and Professional Development: SVMA hosted professional webinars for members about tax incentives, banking, quality control, lean manufacturing and hosting high school internships. SVMA/Charles A. Jones Regional Manufacturing Training Center: SVMA and the Charles A Jones Regional Manufacturing Training Center (RMTC) for Adults received 2 grants from the Cities of Elk Grove and Rancho Cordova to train residents for manufacturing careers. The grants allowed the RMTC to launch the 8-month Manufacturing Technician Program. Two students graduated from the Manufacturing Technician Program in June 2023 and 9 students are currently enrolled. These students graduated in November 2023 & January 2024. Seven students have found employment with area manufacturers.
