Program areas at Sad Girls Club
In-person events:Since Sad Girls Clubs (SGC) founding in 2017, we have helped members of the BIPOC community, particularly women of color, realize they are not alone in their struggles. We are a Black woman-founded and minority run organization created to empower our community in New York with skills, language, and connection. We honor our members experiences with mental illness, which are often steeped in shame because of stigma, and equip them with tools and resources to handle lifes challenges. We create experiences to touch members at every stage of their lives. Our website and social media channels, which span over 250,000 members, offer free, holistic guidance on a range of topics to support and celebrate our community. See Schedule O for additional information.
Remedy - remedy is sgcs quarterly therapy scholarship program, granting one full year of 1-on-1 therapy to selected recipients.
Chat room:Sad Girls Club prioritizes increasing access for the BIPOC community to meet with culturally-competent therapists. In response to the Covid-19 pandemic, we launched an ongoing virtual group therapy series, called Chatroom. Chatroom sessions are 60-minutes long, and provide 10 individuals the opportunity to attend free group therapy with a licensed therapist. There are a minimum of four Chatroom sessions offered each week across U.S. timezones. In 2023, we held 288 Chatroom sessions; 1,440 individuals completed 17,820 therapy minutes in total.
SUMMER OF SAD GIRLS:In 2023, Sad Girls Club held a Summer of Sad Girls tour, to build genuine, face-to-face connections with our community members from around the country. From intimate gatherings to vulnerable conversations, each stop on the tour was designed to cultivate wellness and provide a safe space for members to come together, share their experiences, and support one another. On June 21, we held a Building Adult Friendships event in Atlanta. On July 22, we had a Personal Growth workshop in Chicago. On July 29, we hosted a Growing and Blooming event in Houston, TX. SGCs tour concluded at the Envsn Festival in Brooklyn, which supports the needs of Gen-Z and millenials of color.
