Launched in 1976 as a unique project of the San Francisco police department (sfpd), sf Safe has represented the interests of residents as an innovative, community-driven resource organization, acting as the number one community facing crime prevention initiative of the sfpd. The sf Safe team works in unison with the community engagement division of sfpd (per department of justice requirement), supports all ten sfpd district station captains, and works closely with the sfpd chief of police to drive special projects that benefit the broader community. Coordinating with relevant city departments, sf Safe also facilitates valuable partnerships with well-respected civic advocacy organizations and local constituency groups. In curating a calendar of community-supported events, sf Safe helps bring people together to address local issues. With an organized network of community leaders activated across San Francisco, sf Safe presents a collaborative platform for residents to work alongside one another and representatives of sfpd to build awareness around neighborhood crime prevention, promote placemaking, and create a greater sense of community. Sf Safe provides the tools necessary to keep our communities Safe.
