Program areas at Safe Hands for Girls
The u.s. Advocacy program provides training of fgm survivors to become information advisors in their own communities. It also includes various workshops around multiple u.s. cities to teach practicing communities about fgm and to work with front line professionals. Youth education programs are conducted in after school settings for middle and high school refugee students at colleges and universities with large immigrant populations and helping them become advocates for their own health.
The global advocacy program raises awareness of the plight to end fgm and child marriage, and brings attention to these issues in order to shape policy and resource mobilization. Safe Hands for Girls works with governments and un bodies from all over the world to bring much needed attention to these issues.
The gambian advocacy program provides training of fgm survivors to become information advisors in their own communities. It also includes various workshops around surrounding villages to teach practicing communities about fgm and to work with front line professionals.
The agricultural project, was held on september 6-9, 2023, and included a seed donation to the bankau community garden, as a way to propmote self-sustainability by growing food, and later selling it; using the proceeds to educate young women in the community.
On december 4-8, 2023, an event was held to initiate the formation of a social club for young women in the lower river region; it was attended by 110 students.
The breaking barriers program, based in multiple u.s. cities, offers mentorship; help with school; and links young Girls (from immigrant and refugee backgrounds) with local resources and leadership opportunities, while preventing practices of fgm and child marriage.
