In 2023 Safe Passage released a groundbreaking "Child Fatalities from Maltreatment" report, which examined the deaths of 88 children over the previous 8 years and provided recommendations for improving the system. The report drew national attention, prompting a second report to be released in 2024, which examined the death of 21 children over the past two years.
Safe Passage supported the legislative agendas for closely related nonprofits to improve resources to children and families. Safe Passagevolunteers sent personal email messages to their legislators related to early learning scholarships, targeted home visiting services, andguardians ad litem to their state Representatives and Senators throughout the legislative session as well as during in-person visitsto legislators during an annual Day on the Hill.
Safe Passage was a source of information for several media reports, including a major investigative reporting series titled "In Harm's Way," which exposed major flaws in the state's child protection system.
