Program areas at Sage Leaders
Cli the community leadership institute (cli) is a 6-month fellowship that trains emerging Leaders in issues such as housing, land use, transit, climate and economic development. Graduates learn the nuts and bolts of local government processes such as municipal budgeting, parliamentary procedures, and lawmaking, as well as advocacy, storytelling and communication skills. In 2022, cli graduated 16 members from their 2021- 2022 king county cohort, and launched their first clark county cohort for residents of the vancouver, wa area. The clark county program attracted 12 participants, 11 of whom identify as bipoc. 80% of these participants have applied to public or community centered boards, and 60% have been accepted to date.
Electoral programs our electoral programs include local elected leadership institute (leli), political leadership council (plc), and bipoc candidate cohort. The leli program started in 2021, and is a support group for progressive bipoc Leaders serving in local elected office at the city or county level in Washington state. Leli met 3 times in 2022 to finish out the first year of this program. The political leadership council is a grassroots team of cli graduates who vet, endorse and support bipoc candidates running for city and county office in Washington state. In 2022, 7 plc members endorsed 17 candidates in the 2022 election cycle. 11 of these 17 candidates won their race. The bipoc candidate cohort is a peer support group that offers training resources for progressive civic Leaders interested in running for office. In 2022, 10 bipoc candidates from across Washington state convened 8 sessions, each focusing on a key aspect of campaigning.
