Over the past 12 months Sages and Seekers enrolled students and older adults from the surrounding communities of these facilities: 2 college bridge classes - 60, 2 fairfax high school after school program - 46, 3 ymca pop-ups - 36, 2 pasadena senior center - 60, 2 glassel park senior center - 60, 1 ambassador program - 16, 1 ambassador pop-up cityview - 14, 1 larchmont charter school - 14. Social isolation is a growing epidemic that impacts the well-being of both marginalized age groups we target teens and elders and is increasingly recognized as having dire physical, mental, and emotional consequences. Individuals with less social connection have disrupted sleep patterns, altered immune systems, higher levels of stress hormones and more. With our one-on-one intergenerational program, we are addressing social isolation by building personal relationships through authentic, meaningful conversation. In addition to these intergenerational relationships that develop, each program we run builds community for our program participants. We were able to impact 258 individuals in the los angeles area this past year, as well as other programs in other states across the country.
