Salt Lake Academy of Music

In 2023, Salt Lake Academy of Music (slam) provided direct Music instruction to 269 Salt Lake county residents. 219 of these residents were k-12 children, of which 152 children were enrolled in 30-minute weekly private lessons. 50 children were enrolled in 2-hour weekly performance program group lessons/rehearsal that performed 14 public concerts at venues, fairs and festivals. 10 of these concerts were free to the public. 17 children enrolled in two summer Music weekday one-week, 30-hour day camps. Slam also served 50 adults enrolled in 30-minute weekly private lessons. In accordance with slam's mission, 31 children qualified for full tuition scholarships awards. Slam youth programs expanded to include a new jazz performance program. Anecdotal and enrollment data indicate greater diversity than in Salt Lake county with 53%-white, 22%-multi-racial, 16%-hispanic, 7%-asian/pacific islander, 1%-african american, and 1%-native american. In a february 2023 parent survey, 38% of parents reported that their student's grades improved since enrolling at slam. 98% of parents reported a contribution to student self-esteem and socialization. 62%-parents surveyed report that their child has benefited by making new Music friends at slam.
