Program areas at Sam and Alfreda Maloof Foundation For Arts and Crafts
Education - The Maloof Foundation is a Smithsonian Affiliate, including museum, learning center and workshop. Education programs include docent-led tours of the Maloof Historic Home and Workshop and Maloof-inspired woodworking courses offered in on-site workshops for adults, veterans, and others. Maloof Education programs also annually serve more than 1,000 K-12 students on-site and in local public schools with programs in the arts, creativity and environmental awareness.
Historic Preservation - The Maloof Foundation owns, operates and maintains the Historic Home and Workshop of California Modernist woodworker Sam Maloof and his wife Alfreda. The Maloof is a member of the Historic Artists' Homes and Studios program established by the National Trust. Maloof Historic Buildings are open during regular public hours for tours that introduce visitors to the art and lives of the Maloof family, and its lasting influence.
Other Program Services - The Maloof Foundation originates gallery exhibitions drawn from its permanent collection holdings, which include the world's largest collection of Sam Maloof furniture. Touring exhibitions originating elsewhere explore themes of art, craft and environmental sustainability. The 2400-square foot art gallery is open for viewing, offered free to all. The Maloof also lends art from its collection for display in exhibitions at other museums. The Maloof Store, part of the Foundation's mission to cultivate and nurture artists, offers for sale works of art by local artists, as well as art prints, woodworking, books, prints, souvenirs and related merchandise.
