San Francisco Amateur Astronomers Inc. generally hold a series of public star parties from april to october on mount tamalpais, where the general public, after attending a neary lecture on astronomy can observe astroncimical objects through 12 to 15 member telescopes. They also hold monthly city star parties at the presidio, pt lobos and pier 17 on San Francisco's embarcdero for the general public to observe astronomical objects through member telescopes.
San Francisco Amateur Astronomers Inc. organize and operate an annual lecture series at the mountain theater assisting the friends of mt. Tam organization. They also organize and hold a monthly lecture series on astronomy free and open to the public, featuring professional Astronomers at the presidio and at the the randall museum. Prior to some of the lectures, they hold observation basics teaching sessions where members bring telescopes, binoculars, and star charts to show the public and answer questons on equipment operation, night sky observation, and safe eclipse viewing.events have been temporaliy supended due to covid-19 concerns.
San Francisco Amateur Astronomers Inc. organize member trips to national parks where members set up telescopes for the general public to observe astronomical objects. They provide member volunteers to assist astronomy day public events. Members provide and operate solar telescopes for viewing of the sun by the public in events organized by the girl scouts, the bay area science museum, and the novato space festival. Members demonstrate telescope-making to the public at the San mateo maker faire and novato space festival.events have been temporarily suspended due to covid-19 concerns.
