Performances The Organizations Performing Company conducts dynamic presentations of SJTs unique style of contemporary taiko, highlighting its vast repertoire of original music and featuring innovative collaborations to provide a broad reach for 30,000 national audience members at over 130 venues in a typical year. Performance locations include art centers, universities, and community venues across the nation. Performance settings can include civic events, cultural festivals, and/or in-theatre concerts. Some tour performances include a 2-to-7-day residency. There was a moderate increase of program activity during the audit period, though only 60% of pre-pandemic numbers.
Education and outreach The Organization has an extensive outreach program for youth and adults, offering introductory workshops, ongoing classes, and contextual in-school assemblies focused on building creative expression, self-esteem, cultural pluralism, and group cooperation through physical and musical activity. The program reaches over 25,000 participants in a typical year. This program saw a return to pre-pandemic levels during the audit period.
Training The Organization provides workshops and classes for taiko practitioners, and for students interested in developing their taiko drumming skills leading to the proliferation and advancement of the art form.
