Program areas at San Juan Islands Agricultural Guild
Brickworks: a historical event center providing hall rentals and a year- round home for the San Juan island farmers market, a commercial kitchen functioning as business incubator for food businesses, and the retail pick-up site of the San Juan Islands food hub. In december, the old- fashioned christmas market had over 1,000 people in attendance over three days.
Education and outreach: the Agricultural Guild assisted Washington state university extension of sjc to organize San Juan Islands Agricultural summit. "island grown in San juans" marketing program and website includes a partnership with wa food and farm finder interactive map. Assisted sji's conservation district and sj makers Guild with 29 farm tours over three weekends with 1800+ attendees. The farmers-to-farmland program launched a peer-to-peer mentoring program and connected 26 participants to resources and land opportunities. Designed a model for shared land access and infrastructure for beginning farmers. Two food safety trainings to 31 participants.
Economic development: the Agricultural Guild assisted farmers to expand markets by providing admin and grant support to the San Juan Islands food hub of 20 ag businesses. Collaborated to complete a sjc food system assessment and kicked off development of food system plan. Assisted lopez food center team in completing a business plan. In partnership with sjc health, 160 households participated in the island grown debit card program shopped at farm stands, farmers markets, the food hub and food co-ops. Twelve farms received 72k in farm fund grants to support adoption of regenerative Agricultural practices.
