Founded by a group of island citizens in 1979, the San Juan Preservation Trust is a private, non-profit and membership-based land trust dedicated to helping people and communities conserve land in the San Juan Islands of Washington State.

Program areas at San Juan Preservation Trust

Easements acquisitions - efforts to preserve land through purchase or gifts of land land conservation easements. In 2022 acquired fee interest in 4 properties plus 1 conservation easement transactions.
Land stewardship - oversight protection of Trust land conservation easements by monitoring and restoration of natural habitats. At year-end 2022, The Trust held 247 easements owned 75 land preserves before overlaps, covering 18,700 acres 51 miles of shoreline on 22 islands. Continued program reintroducing western bluebird to San Juan islands.
External education - written materials, displays, web site, newsletters, lectures, slide shows videos, local school classroom presentations. Conducted habitat assessments for landowners held community events on our properties.
