Program areas at Sandberg Goldberg Bernthal Family Foundation
The Foundation works to build a more equal and resilient world and its activities are primarily funded by contributions provided by the founders via their donor advised fund and royalty income derived from copyrights. The copyrights entitle the Foundation to royalty revenues related to sales of two books authored by one of the founders. The Foundation brings people together to support each other through two key initiatives: leanin.org and optionb.org. Leanin.org empowers women to achieve their ambitions. It runs programs that counter gender stereotypes and advance opportunities for all women. Leanin.org supports women in three ways: 1)building community by collecting and exchanging ideas, information, and stories; 2)offering educational materials, lectures, and partnering with experts in the field of gender studies; 3)facilitating the development of lean in circles, small groups that meet monthly to encourage and support each other in an atmosphere of confidentiality and trust.
Optionb.org helps people build resilience and find meaning in the face of adversity. It runs programs that provide resources to people facing adversity such as grief and loss, health, illness and injury, abuse and sexual assault, and divorce and Family challenges. Optionb.org supports men and women in three ways: 1) building community by collecting and exchanging ideas, information, and stories; 2) offering educational materials, lectures, and partnering with experts in the field of adversity studies; 3) facilitating the development of option b support groups: online groups that provide encouragement and support in an atmosphere of confidentiality and trust.
The Foundation has implemented a scholarship program to empower a new generation of diverse leaders by providing exceptional kipp graduates with financial support and mentorship throughout college.
