Program areas at Sauk County Humane Society
The Sauk County Humane Society took in 2,285 animals in 2023. Animal control took 365 calls, handled 116 bite cases, and impounded 265 animals. To ensure we do not have to euthanize healthy, adoptable animals, 499 animals were transferred to other shelters and rescue groups. We published two newsleteers that was sent to over 6,000 households. The newsletter advertises the societys services to the public and provides education and outreach articles. In an effort to curb pet overpopulation, the Sauk County Humane Society operates the areas only low cost spay/neuter clinic. We spayed or neutered 962 cats in 2023. We provide low cost vaccines for 69 cats and 97 dogs and we microchipped 4 cats and 9 dogs.
We assisted 2 individuals with veterinary services through the josh diehm memorial fund for $550 to help owners who have fallen on difficult times keep their pets, three programs have been in place since january 2012: pet partership, safekeeping, and a pet food pantry. These programs help low-income County residents who are temporarily unable to care for their pets or who have emergency pet food or housing needs. These programs are designed to help residents keep their pets rather than giving them away or surrending them to the shelter. In 2023, we assisted 90 individuals through these programs and 80 pets.
