Program areas at Scenic Texas
Scenic enhancement initiatives: Scenic Texas and local chapters partner with statewide organizations to provide information, educational forums and advocacy on statewide Scenic issues. Specifically, through the Scenic city certification program (sccp), Scenic Texas educates Texas municipalities on high-quality Scenic standards for public roadways and public spaces. The sccp provides a proven, highly-regarded tool to Texas cities for assessment, evaluation and recognition of infrastructure standards.
Other Scenic initiatives: may include roadway wildflower plantings, protecting the dark skies through collective impact and advocacy, designation of Scenic highways, continuing the efforts to plant 1 million trees across Texas, developing a Scenic county and Scenic school certifiction program.
Education and advocacy: Scenic Texas works to provide information to the public, educate our members and stakeholders, and advocate concerning issues that impact the Scenic beauty of Texas. These issues include legislation to protect the dark sky from unnecessary light pollution, regulation of billboards, funding for the green ribbon program,the designation of Scenic highways, supporting local control of city ordinances related to beautification and informing and empowering Texas communities and citizens in their opposition to visual blight.
