Physical therapy focuses on a child's basic movement, balance and coordination skills. Our physical therapists design individualized programs to develop and improve a child's motion, strength, balance, mobility and movement skills. During the year ended june 30, 2024, physical therapy provided service to approximately 570 children which accounted for 9,057 visits.
Speech-language therapy(slt) focuses on treating a variety of speech-language impairments including difficulty with speech-language disorders, articulation and hearing loss. Our therapists also treat children with fluency disorders, voice disorders and feeding and/or swallowing difficulties. In the past year, slt treated approximately 595 children which accounted for 9,783 visits.
Occupational therapy(ot) during the current fiscal year, served approximately 698 children which accounted for 11,850 visits. Each visit helps a child develop the fine motor skills needed for activities in their daily lives such as playing with toys, writing and cutting with scissors, eating with utensils, and dressing oneself. Ot is also used to help children adapt to sensory and environmental distractions. Schreiber is one of only four facilities in the entire country certified in constraint induced movement therapy (cimt).
In march 2020, Schreiber added an outpatient behavioral health program that works with children ages 3 to 20 with a variety of mental health diagnoses. During the current fiscal year, behavioral health provided service to 98 children which accounted for 960 visits.
S.t.a.r.s. Preschool is open to all children in the community. It is one of just a few preschools based on 'reverse mainstreaming', a term referring to expanding the program to include both children with special needs and typically developing children. By playing together, children learn to understand, accept and value diversity. Children were offered a year-round program that helps them reach their educational and developmental milestones.
Schreiber Center for Pediatric Development offers a variety of recreational programs throughout the year. We offer programs in the fall, winter, spring, and summer. Our most popular programs are camp Schreiber and club 625.adaptive swim lessons are offered in our therapy pool for children of all disabilities and children within the community. With our special program the kids learn in a private setting, and then either placed in a semi-private lesson or moved into a community swimming program.the Schreiber programs continue to expand and grow each year. Some programs are not offered for a year and then may be brought back the next year to give the families a variety in programming.other programs offered throughout the year are music together, social skills, lunch and a movie, and respite care.
Social services department offers ongoing support to Schreiber Pediatric families through local community resources, family support groups. The staff also maintains an on-site resource library and adaptive toy lending library to all families who receive services at the Center.
