Concerts in 2022-23 were held at a variety of venues in both minneapolis and saint paul: landmark center, the bell museum planetarium, summit brewery's ratskeller, the Minnesota opera luminary arts center, the walker art center, and parkway theater. Schubert Club's courtroom concert series is named for its regular location in a historic courtroom at landmark center in saint paul, mn. To allow audience and artists more space, the 2022-23 concerts were located in landmark center's main floor cortile. This weekly series of free, noon-time concerts features minnesota-based musicians and composers.accordo is a highly regarded string ensemble comprised of present and former principals of the saint paul chamber orchestra and Minnesota orchestra. Schubert Club presented accordo in westminster presbyterian church and icehouse in minneapolis, and at ordway center in st paul.harpist bridget kibbey was the Schubert Club's featured artist for the season, performing in all three major Schubert Club concert series as well as community and education events. the kanneh-masons, all seven sibling musicians in the remarkable british family, brought the 140th anniversary season to a joyful close with a celebration performance at the ordway concert hall in may.
Museum exhibitslocated on the 2nd floor of landmark center in downtown saint paul, the Schubert Club music museum features two exhibit areas: the music makers zone, which lets visitors explore and play instruments from around the globe; and the keyboard journey, which allows visitors to interactively experience the Schubert Club collection of historic keyboards and manuscripts. Admission is free. the music museum welcomed more than 8300 visitors in 2022-23.
Music education and community engagementschubert Club believes that music education and arts access are essential components of living in a culturally rich and healthy community. Project cheer, in its 54rd year, offered free piano, guitar, and rhythm lessons for approximately 100 students in grades pre-k and 3-12 at the hallie q. brown/martin luther king community center and the mt. Airy boys and girls club.see schedule o for additional program language.kidsjam is an interactive program for kids ages 5-12 to play, listen, learn and create with music. During its 9th season, 17 kidsjam workshops were led by a diverse array of musicians and teaching artists. Let's make music was a series of 20 free, interactive group events held throughout the year in the Schubert Club music museum, led by popular twin cities musicians using instruments from the museum. Student scholarshipsthe bruce p. carlson student scholarship competition, held annually since 1922, attracted over 200 student musicians from the five-state region, from junior high to graduate school level. 47 scholarships with a total value of $72,500 were awarded to competition winners in six categories. Schubert Club also awarded grants totaling $14,632 to six students for musical promise scholarships and jazz piano scholarships in 2022-23.
