Concertsschubert Club presented a total of 51 concerts during the 2023-24 season in five series:schubert Club's international artist series, one of only a few recital-format series in the united states, is key to the organization's national and worldwide reputation for engaging the world's greatest artists in solo performances. Concerts are held at the ordway center for the performing arts in saint paul, mn.see schedule o for additional program language.schubert Club's music in the park series is a dedicated chamber music series that features guest ensembles of national and international prominence. Concerts are held at saint anthony park united church of christ in saint paul, mn.schubert Club mix is an innovative series designed to take the formality out of classical music. Audiences are treated to intimate performances in non-traditional venues featuring an eclectic range of artists who are currently influencing the musical landscape. Concerts in 2023-24 were held at a variety of venues in both minneapolis and saint paul: landmark center, walker art center, the Minnesota opera luminary arts center, ordway center, and parkway theater. Schubert Club's courtroom concert series is named for its regular location in a historic courtroom at landmark center in saint paul, mn. This weekly series of free, noon-time concerts features minnesota-based musicians and composers.accordo is a much-loved string ensemble comprised of present and former principals of the saint paul chamber orchestra and Minnesota orchestra. Schubert Club presented accordo in westminster presbyterian church and icehouse in minneapolis, and at ordway center in st paul.violinist daniel hope was the Schubert Club's featured artist for the season, performing three concerts in two Schubert Club series as well as being featured in community and family-oriented events.
Museum exhibitslocated on the 2nd floor of landmark center in downtown saint paul, the Schubert Club music museum features two exhibit areas: the music makers zone, which invites visitors to explore and play instruments from around the globe; and the keyboard journey, which allows visitors to experience the Schubert Club collection of historic keyboards and manuscripts through video and sound recordings. Admission is free. the music museum welcomed more than 10,000 visitors in 2023-24.
Music education and community engagementschubert Club believes that music education and arts access are essential components of a culturally rich and healthy community. Project cheer offered free music lessons at the hallie q. brown/martin luther king center and the mt. Airy boys and girls Club in saint paul. the program was started in partnership with hallie q. Brown in 1969. Approximately 100 students in grades 1-12 received piano, guitar, and rhythm lessons in 2023-24.see schedule o for an additional program language.schubert Club hosted three multi-event music education residencies throughout the year led by gifted teaching artists. Kidsjam is an interactive educational program for kids ages 5-12 to play, listen, learn and create with music. During its 10th season, kidsjam workshops took place at the Schubert Club music museum and three saint paul public schools. 2023-24 also saw the debut of familyjam, a series of free, music museum-based concerts and activities for families on saturday mornings.the let's make music program offered interactive group events held throughout the year in the Schubert Club music museum, led by popular twin cities musicians using instruments from the museum. Five new museum mini programs were added to the free online collection of virtual learning experiences which showcase instruments from the music museum.student scholarshipsthe bruce p. carlson student scholarship competition, held annually since 1922, attracted over 200 student musicians from the five-state region, from junior high to graduate school level. 47 scholarships with a total value of $71,750 were awarded to competition winners in six categories. Schubert Club also awarded four jazz piano scholarships, and expanded the musical promise scholarship program to four students, with grants for these programs totaling $15,860.
