Program areas at Science for America
One key question is how to satisfy growing global demand for energy while keeping costs low and driving energy-related carbon dioxide emissions to zero. To this end, we published a white paper ("new opportunities for fusion power") that is published on our website and publicly available. We then turned our attention to carbon dioxide. Given the need to remove billions of tons of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere over the coming decades, we are evaluating potential ways to drive down the cost of direct air capture to enable co2 removal from the atmosphere in the most energy and cost-effective way.
We wanted to better understand which groups are underrepresented in stem, how much are they underrepresented by, and are some universities doing better than others at diversifying their stem student population. We started by looking at relative representation: the representation of a group relative to their representation in a baseline population. Calculating a given population's representation in stem at a college compared to that population's baseline representation in the same college's overall population may allow us to evaluate current demographics to see if there are patterns of over or under representation for certain groups in stem, relative to their representation across that university as a whole.
A team of Science for America staff and advisors has been carrying out a comprehensive analysis of what it would take to bring a game-changing solution to accelerate the development of new cancer therapeutics.
