Program areas at Scotland Memorial Foundation

The Foundation raises funds primarily through annual events, capital and major gift campaigns, annual restricted and unrestricted giving and planned giving. Donors have demonstrated a commitment to the Foundation and shcs by funding numerous health-related programs and services throughout the communities in the shcs service area. These financial commitments remain essential due to the continued economic challenges of the entire region.scotland Memorial Foundation (smf) has received external grants from organizations such as cannon Foundation, duke endowment, and golden leaf Foundation. Smf will work with the newly hired grants manager to identify potential opportunities for the Foundation and the health care system.smf provides support to departments throughout the hospital and health care system including, but not limited to, the cancer center, wound healing center, cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, cardiovascular center, emergency center, women's center, and nursery. This support provides opportunities for community-based health and wellness programs, indigent patients, minor equipment procurement and educational supplies and programs for patients and teammates.foundation funding subsidizes community health screenings, both in the hospital and through mobile units. Screenings may include cholesterol, blood pressure, body fat, prostate, and mammograms.community health education activities include men's and women's health events, diabetes education fair, pregnancy fair and other faith-based wellness activities. Pertinent health issues are addressed with motivational speakers, educational sessions and other learning tools. The Foundation also sponsors several community support groups for cancer and other chronic issues, supporting emotional and mental wellness through the communities. Scholarships are provided for high school students entering health care related fields of study as well as higher education scholarships for students already enrolled in health care studies. These scholarships are based upon merit, need and community involvement. These scholarships are provided with a desire for students to return to the community as health care professionals once their studies are complete.smf alo explores opportunities to support local community organizations whose needs meet the Foundation's mission. Some examples include st. andrews university nursing program, Scotland county parks and recreation for a fixed outdoor exercise park, and uncp health science scholarship program. The Foundation volunteer board of trustees participate in multiple community fundraising activities, serve on committees to plan for increased services, and recruit community members for consideration of estate/planned giving. During the year, events are held to support community health and wellness programs including the fund run and putting on the ritz a gala of giving as well as other fundraising activities.
