Founded in 1973, Scottsdale Training and Rehabilitation Services (STARS) is a 501 (c)3 non-profit organization that has been committed to providing services to teens and adults with developmental and cognitive disabilities throughout Scottsdale and the Greater Phoenix community. STARS participants each have individual needs and circumstances, including learning disabilities, traumatic brain injury, autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, seizure disorders or other physical and sensory challenges. STARS serves as a lifetime support system for participants and their families.

Program areas at STARS

The work center at stars osborn campus provided 29 adults with vocational Training and supports to assist them in developing appropriate workplace behaviors, while providing remunerative employment in assembly and light manufacturing tasks. Individuals are provided with regular assessments that assist those interested in eventual community-based employment.
Competitive integrated employment (cie), which was launched in august 2020 as employment first initiative (efi), provided discovery Services to 78 job seekers, helping them to discover the dream job of their choice. Following discovery, job seekers received assistance in resume writing and participated in mock interviews. Once employed, job seekers received 1:1 onsite job Training from stars for 3-6 months, after which they transitioned away from daily supports. After transitioning from daily, 1:1 onsite job Training, individuals may choose to receive weekly or bi-weekly community-based employment supports from stars job coaches. These supports assist the employee in their continual development, ensuring that situations that might negatively impact job performance are addressed proactively in a timely and professional manner. 42 individuals received community-based supports.
The day Training program at stars cholla campus provided 44 individuals with life and social skills Training and supports that help them develop healthy, lasting relationships with their peers. Weekday programming is provided to adults aged 22 years and up. Although post-pandemic program attendance has not yet returned to pre-covid levels, it continues to steadily increase each month.
Other programs include transportation and in-home hcbs Services that include respite, habilitation and attendant care. Hcbs was launched in april 2021 and served 3 individuals.
