Program areas at Shadowland Stages
Mainstage subscription season - Shadowland produces a season of professional plays and musicals from may through december on it's mainstage. These actors' equity productions run from three to five weeks each, and feature the combined talents of some of new york's most talented actors, directors, and designers along with strong technical elements and excellent sightlines in it's 179 seat robert m osgood auditorium. As one of only two professional theatre companies in new york's ulster county, Shadowland plays a large role in the artistic fabric and quality of life in ellenville, ulster county, and the hudson valley region of ny state.
Presenting and community rentals - as the cultural centerpiece of both our community and the broader region, Shadowland also produces other programming throughout the year, including play readings, a classic film series, community events, concerts and meetings for regional organizations. Shadowland has invested in the development of new plays and Artists, and the focus of that work occurs in the studio at Shadowland Stages.
Academy arts classes - the academy at Shadowland Stages is our educational program. Housed in the newly renovated studio at Shadowland Stages, the academy offers two main semesters of theatre classes for hundreds of students each year. The students attending academy programming range from 5-18 years of age, and many come from poor economic conditions. The students study classes in acting, playwriting, improvisation and other aspects of the theatrical & performing arts. Each year the fall semester concludes with productions performed by the students.
