Program areas at Sharing Excess

Food Rescue: Food rescue is our comprehensive strategy to mitigate food waste and enhance food access, through three tailored programs. Our Wholesale Rescue program operates within major wholesale markets, partnering with large producer wholesalers to recover and glean surplus produce. Our Retail Rescue program works with grocery stores to recover excess food, utilizing our app, vehicles, and full-time drivers. Our Direct Link program enables us to pick up and deliver high volumes of surplus food to area food banks by utilizing third-party logistics and transportation.
Technology: Our technology program leverages our innovative, in-house mobile app designed to streamline the food rescue process. This technology simplifies operations for admins, volunteers, employees, and drivers, enabling them to efficiently deliver surplus food, measure donations, and view impact data.
Food Distribution: Food distributions are central to our mission, facilitated through partnerships with hundreds of nonprofits, mutual aid networks, food banks, and community organizations. We provide fresh, free food for food pantries, community fridges, and organized food distributions, including our own farmers-market-style pop-ups. This collaborative framework ensures a wide-reaching and efficient distribution of a variety of food to people who need it.
