Program areas at Shepherd's House Ministries
Between july 2022 and june 2023, the lighthouse navigation center continued to serve as a 24/7 care facility for unhoused community members of central Oregon who are seeking shelter and supportive services. During this time, we provided roughly 38,000 overnight beds and averaged 354 unique individuals per month. Our daytime services supported, on average, unique individuals per month and engaged an average of 120 in case management services. With the aid and support of over 40 community partners we successfully transitioned 98 individuals into transitional housing situations and 93 individuals into permanent housing. Throughout this time, we served over 47,000 meals.
Abi's House, which is shepherds House women & children's long-term program is a free, residential, nine-month to two-year, six-phase program. We have a 9-bed home for women and their children. Life controlling issues and patterns dealt with in the phases may include financial, legal, addiction, physical, relational and mental health issues. Program classes (1300 hours/year) are taught by staff, volunteers, trained professionals, pastors, and educators. These classes include life skill, anger management, psycho-education, parenting skills, nutrition, bible study, outdoor activity therapies, dialectical behavior therapy, cognitive behavior therapy among other modalities. During their programs, residents participate in outside recovery meetings, faith communities, and community service projects. Our women have the opportunity to work on completing their ged's, go to college, or train for jobs as they move through the phases. In-house, they perform the duties of caring for their home including cooking, cleaning, recycling, general maintenance of the House, and gardening. Shm provides their dinner meals(2,592/year), clothing, hygiene and shelter (3,295 nights/year) during their program and as they re-integrate into functional living in society. Additionally, during weekends, we accommodate more children as they visit their moms in the program.
Men's long-term discipleship & habilitation program is a free, residential in-house, nine month to two-year six-phase program. We have 30 residents in our program from the ages of 18 to 80. Life controlling issues dealt with in the phases may include financial, legal, addiction, physical, and mental health issues. Program classes (1300 hours/year) are taught by staff, volunteers, trained professionals, pastors, and educators that include addiction recovery, anger management, dbt, reality therapy & choice theory, relapse prevention, bible study, and outdoor activity therapies. During their programs, residents participate in outside recovery meetings, work programs, church, and community service projects. Each resident has a mentor from the community, an in-house discipleship partner and access to private therapeutic sessions. Our men have the opportunity to work on completing their ged's, go to college, or train for jobs as they move through the phases. In-house, they perform the duties of caring for their home including cooking, cleaning, general maintenance of the House, property, and vehicles, assist with homeless services, and monitor security. Shm provides their meals (27,375/year), clothing and shelter (10,950 nights/year) during their program and as they re-integrate into the community. Noncash food donations in the amount of 211,419 were received during the fiscal year to be used for the kitchen and all areas of ministry.
Expenses: 236,348 project share (shepherd's House aid & relief effort) has established and maintained trusting relationships with over 400 unique unhoused individuals and has created working relationships with fellow local service providers by entering into coordinated efforts to provide continuum of care for unhoused community members. This includes working with mobile medical care, behavioral health, housing, case management, addiction recovery, domestic violence prevention, child welfare and local law enforcement agencies. Emergency supplies including food, water, clothing, hygiene, and sheltering resources are also distributed to unhoused community members. A total of 57 tarps, 208 blankets, 142 jackets and 395 gallons of propane have been dispersed in addition to food, water, clothing, and hygiene supplies that are offered daily. Expenses: 344,263 a new property was acquired in redmond, Oregon to provide a free, residential in-house, nine months to two-year six phase program. This is still in the start-up phase. Future uses will include year-round overnight shelter, a day center connecting guests with community resources, and a community kitchen. Expenses: 168,126 2022-23 redmond winter shelter served men, women, children and pets during the coldest months of the year from november 15th 2022 through march 15th 2023. The shelter operated for this entire period at a single dedicated host church. In addition to a warm place to sleep, the shelter provided meals, bedding, clean clothing, showers, and toiletries. Assistance and information are provided to help guests locate permanent housing, access services, and reconnect with family. During the 2022-2023 season, we sheltered 208 unique individuals who collectively received a season total of 2824 overnight stays. 2022-2023 redmond winter shelter also provided 5,648 meals (2,824 dinners, 2,824 breakfast bags); over 1,400 showers, and over 2,000 hygiene products. Expenses: 51,173 revenues: 54,760 community homes are available to program graduates. We have two homes that provide "forever housing" for sixteen graduates of the men's long-term discipleship & habilitation program. It is a community of men living together as a family pursuing a drug and alcohol-free lifestyle. The men commit to honor Shepherd's House Ministries mission as they create and maintain a safe and healing environment; staying connected with our programs, holding each other accountable, continuing with outside meetings, church connections and mentor meetings. Graduate live independently, sharing the expenses and responsibilities of their home while practicing life skills as they integrate into the community at large.
