Program areas at Sherman Library & Gardens

Sherman gardens had 90,005 visitors, an increase of 17% over the prior year. The Sherman gardens volunteer association and docents worked 10,800 hours, an increase of 47% over the prior year. Sherman gardens reinstituted educational tours of the botanical gardens for school children in grades 3 through 5 bused in from all parts of orange county, ca. Lesson plans were developed for the day prior to the tour and for the subsequent day of the tour. Transportation costs were funded by Sherman gardens through donations.sherman gardens is also developing a plant data base for the benefit of horticultural studies.
Sherman library had 5,080 visitors, an increase of 23.8% over the prior year. Our staff assisted 528 serious researchers in their study of the history of the pacific southwest, which is the main focus of the library. Volunteers worked 1,209 hours, docents worked 140 hours and interns worked 190 hours at the library. Each category exceeded the prior year. Sherman library restored over 40 pieces of art received in the prior year and successfully displayed the collection to the public. In addition, in cooperation with the laguna beach art museum, Sherman library loaned its California impressionist collection to lbam for a six week exhibit to the public.
