Program areas at ShoreLake Arts
Our Arts Education and Outreach program provides visual arts classes, camps and intensives throughout the year. Designed to develop creativity, critical thinking, collaborative learning, and cultural awareness. In 2023 our programs grew to serve nearly 300 students. As the Shoreline School District is not able to provide professionally taught visual arts in its nine elementary schools, ShoreLake Arts classes are often the only visual arts education students in grades K-5 receive. While the focus is on serving those students, we are building the middle school and high school programs and, addituionally, offer adult art workshops. We provide free hands-on art opportunities at multiple community events throughout the year and down-loadable DIY art projects created by professional artists.
Arts Culture offerings include free public events such as the summer Concerts in the Park series Shakespeare in the Park the Dia de Muertos Celebration a Lunar New Year Lantern Festival and the Underground Holiday Market. The program also produces three ticketed or hybrid ticketed/free events including the 6x6NW Art Exhibit and Sale the Shoreline Short Short Film Festival where winners take home cash prizes. In 2023 about 8,500 people attended in-person events.
The ShoreLake Arts Gallery exhibits and sells the work of more than 120 local artists each year, helping artists build and develop their careers. In addition to its rotating exhibits and ongoing sales, the Gallery connects the community with art through free, hands-on workshops taught by artists on topics including collage, zines, printmaking, watercolor and more. The Gallery is also home to the Little Free Art Studio where the community exchanges art materials and books. The Gallery works to develop cultural awareness through special projects such as artist-created ofrenda in celebration of Dia de Muertos and DIY Lantern kits welcoming in the Lunar New Year. Each year more than 9,500 people visit the ShoreLake Arts Gallery.
