Program areas at Shoucheng Zhang Foundation
1) stanford physics fellowships with international and interdisciplinary collaborations. We coordinated with the stanford physics department to establish a Shoucheng Zhang fellowship for select stanford graduate students pursuing research in material science and condensed matter physics. This collaboration started in 2019, shortly after professor zhangs passing. This year, 2022-2023, the program selected another four outstanding fellows to join the stanford Shoucheng Zhang fellowship at stanford. The Foundation also hosted events for stanford faculty and students to discuss new discoveries in science and further collaborations in research. Attached below are photos from a gathering between the new fellows and stanford faculty.
2) stanford sccei (stanford center on chinas economy and institutions)we helped to support the operations and summer student of the stanford rural education action program (reap), which is a program under stanford center on china's economy and institutions . With the foundations support, the reap program was able to sift through brilliant ideas from the scientific community and find ones showing promise for improving real-world issues affecting children's health and education in rural china. 3) work together with the elevate tutoring program. This year the Shoucheng Zhang Foundation is continuously working with the elevate tutoring to help providing scholarship money to first-generation college students who receive training and then provide free stem tutoring to in-need middle and high school students. The tutor training fellowship program is halfway through its 12th year and has now seen 200 tutors provide over 19,000 hours of free stem tutoring. I was honored to attend the Shoucheng Zhang scholarship recipients, kate duong and niklas feil-haws graduation ceremony.
