Program areas at Shrine Mont
Shrine Mont is a conference and retreat facility serving the episcopal diocese of Virginia. Integral to the campus is the cathedral Shrine of the transfiguration which is the cathedral of the diocese. In addition to the work with the episcopal church, Shrine Mont has a strong commitment in advancing the arts and historic preservation. Shrine Mont provides food, lodging, facilities and support to church groups from a variety of denominations, secular groups, individuals and families seeking a place apart. Shrine Mont continued preparations to celebrate our 100th anniversary which occurs in 2025.accomplishments in 2023: -the cathedral Shrine served over 10,000 worshipers-hosted over 10,000 individuals 95 retreats held by 90 different parishes, 15 church conferences, 14 arts groups and numerous other small groups and family reunions.-held 21 of our own workshops including digital photography, yoga, flower arranging, and a summer camp for grown ups. This included the addition of a fly fishing weekend and a conference on celtic consciousness.-served over 460 campers.-saw a growth in utilization of four electronic vehicle charging stations on site courtesey of tesla. Shrine Mont is a place of beauty and peace that brings artists of all ages and disciplines. Accomplishments in 2023: -provided boarding and lodging for 14 artist workshops and programs in a variety of disciplines including painting creation, digital photography, water colors, collage and dance. -hosted the sixty first year of the shenandoah valley music festival, 8 concerts were attended by over 12,000 people from the shenandoah valley and beyond. Over 800 concert patrons stayed overnight at Shrine Mont as part of a music and mountain package.-maintained, preserved and restored an on -site collection of the works of the 19th century artist john douglas woodward. Shrine Mont purchased the historic orkney spring hotel in 1979 and renovated its twelve buildings, which were built between 1855 and 1875. The hotel's buildings were listed on the national register of historic places in 1976 as one of the last complete examples of the Virginia valley nineteenth -century mineral spring complexes designed for public accommodation. Shrine Mont preserves this historic treasure with ongoing improvements and regular upkeep to protect its historic value and provide comfortable accommodations now and for generations to come.
