Program areas at SCFSC
The Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina is a faith-based organization deeply rooted in the principles of the gospel and the traditions of the Catholic Church. As a ministry of the Sisters of Charity Health System the Foundation is committed to addressing the cause and effects of poverty in South Carolina. The Foundation is dedicated to efforts which help build a sustainable healthy economy, promote educational success, support stronger families, contribute to long-term community development, and to the measurement of the effects of these efforts.
To help meet its mission, the Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina is committed to the following programmatic activities: conducting and/or commissioning research that relates to the causes and consequences of poverty; plan for and execute advocacy activities that support local, state, and federal policy change that will remove barriers for people experiencing poverty; conduct learning opportunities both internally and externally in the area of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion to understand the historical and systemic causes of poverty and how to break through barriers in the future; provide capacity building and technical support for grantee partners; and convene stakeholders across all sectors to collaborate to reduce poverty in South Carolina.
The Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina provides grant funding through an application process to nonprofit organizations that do one or more of the following for people experiencing poverty in the state: meet immediate needs, break the cycle of poverty, and/or make change at a system level. The organizations that receive grant funding work in the areas of health, education, and social services.
