Program areas at Sisters Place
Hud funded program sunrise supportive housing program supports families experiencing a housing crisis by providing a wide range of care to put them on a path to permanent housing and overall success. The head of household in these families must have a verifiable disability in order to be eligible. Families are housed in scattered sites units through allegheny county while staff continue to ensure each participant is connected with affordable health insurance, has access to all of their vital documents, and has been set up with a personal budget that will help them manage their income and expenses. Staff will connect every family to Sisters Place resource network to ensure long term success in all areas of their lives. Most recently, a family that was participating in this program was able to address some of their mental health challenges while also improving their overall parenting skills and financial budgeting. This support to help mitigate their barriers made it a less challenging experience when it came time to successfully identify affordable housing.
Safe spaces at Sisters places acts as a community drop in center to provide harm reduction resources in addition to informal mental health support. The space provides an area for members of the community as well as program participants to feel safe and supported to discuss their needs and concerns while receiving resource connections from staff. Routinely safe spaces brings external partners and providers into the space to meet with individuals and work with them one on one. Safe spaces has had dollar bank to provide information on their first time homebuyers program, as well as hillman cancer, the financial empowerment center, and other services in the greater pittsburgh area to meet specific needs outside of what Sisters Place can offer.
