Program areas at SITE
Exhibitions: throughout its exhibition program, Site Santa Fe explores a rich span of cultural perspectives and makes contemporary art accessible to diverse audiences. Selected exhibitions presented at Site Santa Fe this year included:"goodnight moon," a solo exhibition by artist rachel rose featuring new and recent sculpture, installation and video, as well as notable historical loans from the yale center for british art. "his mark," bruce nauman's first solo exhibition in new mexico, which included new and recent video installation, 3d video, and self-portrait work that has never been exhibited before. Since the 1960s, bruce nauman's work has questioned the very nature of what constitutes art and being an artist. He is known for making his body - his hands in particular - the object of his work and a tool for exploring the relationship between language and meaning. "come walk in my shoes" was deborah roberts' first solo museum exhibition in new mexico. It featured a selection of recent mixed media figurative collages (2018-2022) exploring duality in blackness and engaging racial stereotypes. It centered on the subject of black boyhood in the united states and intimately shared the complex and layered experiences of black boys, while creating and holding space for their innocence and vulnerability, allowing them to take up space, explore, and be seen. "inference patterns" was a solo exhibition of new and recent work by multidisciplinary tlingit and unangax artist nicholas galanin. Rooted in his relationship to land, indigenous visual language, and thought, galanin merges conceptual and material practices in his expansive creative approach. Utilizing numerous materials and processes, galanin continues to build a vast creative vocabulary, reflecting on and speaking to the world from an indigenous perspective.and water," a solo exhibition of recent works by new york-based artist n. dash, featured the spare, ecologically driven paintings for which the artist is internationally known. Dash's work harmonizes subtle energy systems by transforming humble substances through the fundamental forces of touch, attention, and care. The unconventional idiom of these paintings speaks of experience beyond language, of that which can be felt in the body but never fully articulated - of being human on this earth, entangled in its web of wildness and sublimity. "field of dreams" was a solo exhibition featuring new and recent works by artist billie zangewa. Zangewa creates intricate collages composed of hand-stitched fragments of raw silk. Her use of silk as a material speaks to the transformative nature of the work itself. Silk, as the "leftovers" of the chrysalis process, is a material created through transformation; it's what remains and is illustrative of billie zangewa's creative process of metamorphosizing life's challenges and complex emotions into art. Both the artist and the material share the process of transformation.
Education and public programs: Site Santa Fe's creativity and learning department brings arts programming into communities to co-create projects with a diverse range of participants. Site Santa Fe's work in the schools is connected to the themes of the current exhibition or public programs, explores ideas relevant to the contemporary culture, and gives youth an opportunity to respond critically and creatively. Site Santa Fe's public programs are a vital component of the organization's annual arts programming. A variety of performances, artist talks, film screenings, and other multidisciplinary programs are offered throughout the year and provide multiple access points for the public to learn about and discuss the art on display.
General programs: Site Santa Fe creates a physical and virtual space that is welcoming and educational to all through visitor services, marketing and communications outreach, and the store. Visitors' experience is enhanced by a curated lobby space that promotes the sales of books and objects that are thematically tied to the exhibitions.
