Program areas at Skamania County Council on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault
Provide emergency short term shelter (the holly house) and day drop in center for supportive services to victims/survivors of Domestic Violence. Assistance with legal advocacy, crisis intervention, advocacy, medical advocacy, housing assistance information and referral, safety planning and access to a 24 hour crises line for emergency assistance. Provide the community with prevention and community education services. (County, dv, prevention, and united way grants).
Children's advocacy centers are child-focused, child-friendly facilities where children and their families feel safe enough to get the help they need to stop abuse and begin the process of healing. Representatives from many disciplines meet to discuss and make decisions about investigation, treatment and prosecution of child abuse cases. They also work to prevent further victimization of children. This multidisciplinary team approach brings together all the professionals and agencies needed to offer comprehensive services; law enforcement,child protective services, prosecution, mental health, the medical community and advocacy. This comprehensive approach, with follow-up services provided by the cac, ensures that children receive child-focused services in a child- friendly environment - one in which the child's needs come first (cac)
Provide Sexual Assault core services including community education, information and referral, crisis intervention, legal-medical-general advocacy, and systems coordination. Provide direct services to victims of Sexual Assault and secondary victims. (sa)
Stop Violence against women by improving the community response to Violence against women. Advocacy and improvement of the criminal justice system in response to crimes against women. Development and improvement of effective law enforcement and prosecution. (stop) provide specialized services including twelve-week support groups for approximately 20 adult victims/survivors of Sexual abuse/assault and one twelve-week support group for approximately 10 adolescent victims of Sexual abuse/assault. Provide Sexual Assault individual therapy to adults and children. (sass) provide legal advocacy to victims of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault. Assistance with applying for crime victims compensation and navigating through the criminal and civil justice systems. (dv legal)
