Program areas at Smith County Farm Bureau
Public policy programs in order to protect & promote the agriculture industry the Smith co Farm Bureau through its structure of volunteer leaders supports public policy efforts at the local, state & national level. This is accomplished through both legislative & regulatory monitoring communications with members & public awareness programs about farming & rural life & provide information about the agriculture industry. Volunteer board members participate in the sponsorship of meet the candidate activities & yearly policy meetings with their legislators to educate them about ag policy & how the industry is impacted by lawmakers.
Youth leadership development the Smith County Farm Bureau supports youth agriculture organizations both financially and with volunteer hours. The organization donates to the Smith County 4-h and Smith County ffa. The Smith County Farm Bureau also puts on a Farm day where elementary school children can tour a Farm where exhibits are set up to show the children how livestock is taken care of and how our food is grown and harvested. This is an eye opening and educational experience for the children to see how important agriculture is to sustaining life and where our food and fiber come from.
Agriculture leadership activities the Smith County Farm Bureau structure of organizational leadership provides many opportunities for member leaders to keep abreast of issues that affect agriculture. Local board members attend organizational & educational meetings each month. They participate in other local agricultural, civic, & community organizations. Leaders attend district, state & national conferences to network with farmers & other agriculturalists to learn about current issues facing agriculture. A highly developed committee structure provides leadership opportunities for members through meetings, regular communications, and agricultural activities.
