Program areas at Social Philosophy and Policy Foundation
Conferences and journal: the Social Philosophy and Policy Foundation engages in the scholarly analysis of public Policy from a philosophical perspective. It is highly regarded both in the academic world and among Policy experts for its distinctive approach of focusing upon the moral implications of divergent treatments of public Policy questions. It holds conferences and supports publications on Social Philosophy and Policy. In 2023 the Foundation held three scholarly conferences, planned two conferences to be offered in 2024, and edited and prepared for publication two issues of an internationally prominent academic journal in Social Philosophy and Policy.
Ethics, economics, and entrepreneurship: the Foundation engages in an academic program to promote the teaching of economics in high schools. This includes the preparation of textbooks and educational materials in both printed and internet formats, the design of educational curricula, an educational summer program to train high school teachers, and the coordination of high school courses taught for advance college credit. During 2023 nine high school teachers at seven schools and more than 450 high school students were enrolled in the program, of whom 200 received college credit. Seven courses for master of legal studies students were offered as well.
Scholarly research: the Foundation engages in research involving eminent scholars from a wide spectrum of informed opinion and discipline including law, Philosophy, history, political science, and economics. Its purpose is to broaden the range of political discourse. The three senior fellows of the Foundation conduct research on the history of political Philosophy, on american higher education and political institutions, and on modern war and diplomatic history. In 2023 the Foundation also supported the work of affiliated scholars, including five professors at different universities as well as several workshops, lectures, and public forums resulting in numerous published books and articles.
