Program areas at Soky Patriots
Food outreach program: concentrates on providing food to the working poor, the disabled, and seniors with limited income and/or transportation issues. Soky Patriots conduct rural food distributions monthly at various locations through our mobile food pantries. In addition, as a partner agency of feeding america, Kentucky's heartland, we assist in distributing the commodity supplemental food program (csfp) boxes, more commonly known as 'senior boxes.' This program works to improve the health of low-income adults at least 60 years of age by supplementing their diets with a monthly box of nutritious usda non-perishable foods. Individuals may pick it up during our monthly distribution at ephram white park in bowling green, ky, or we offer a delivery service for those that need it.
Medical equipment and supply loan and recovery program: focuses on providing equipment to people that cannot afford the equipment they desperately need for their overall health and well-being. This service is provided at zero cost to the client. Most of our clients are referred to us via home health providers. We utilize used equipment that we have refurbished and purchase new equipment when necessary. Recovers medical items that people no longer need. This may be due to the death of a family member, a change in medical treatment, or simply an abundance of supplies, etc. These recovered items are donated to medical organizations such as hospice care and home health providers or directly to needy individuals. These items consist of but are not limited to diapers, tubing, bed pads, syringes, iv flushes, etc.
Warren county backpack program: Soky Patriots serve as the warren county backpack program coordinator as defined by our partnership agreement with feeding america, Kentucky's heartland. While this partnership allows us to purchase food at reduced costs, as the program coordinator, we are responsible for leading the local volunteer team as they raise the funds needed to cover the program's food expenses. The backpack program meets the needs of food-insecure children by providing them with nutritious and easy-to-prepare food to take home on weekends and school vacations when other resources are unavailable.
