Solar Austin accelerates the transition to clean, renewable energy in Central Texas and expands access to solar benefits while mitigating climate change, creating a healthy community and supporting a strong local economy. Solar Austin's Pathways to Clean Energy Careers program improves diversity within the clean energy industry by providing students of color and women with paid internships at local clean energy companies from winter of 2019 till September 2021.

Program areas at Solar Austin

Since 2019, SA has been addressing this workforce diversity challenge through its Pathways to Clean Energy Program, a structured internship matching program to place women and students of color at solar and clean energy companies. This program aims to facilitate pathways for underrepresented students into clean energy jobs and develop a set of best practices for clean energy companies to improve diversity and inclusion in their recruitment, hiring, and staff retention. Four interns were placed in clean energy roles during Q4 of 2022, and all of those interns extended their internships at their placement company and/ or accepted full time roles in clean energy. Solar Austin staff also provided workplace equity training for 3 company partners and participated in a Green Workforce Accelerator with The City of Austin during this time.
