Program areas at Solar Research Institute
Virginia Solar workforce development initiative (vswdi): sri is instrumental in developing a skilled Solar energy workforce. The Solar hands-on instructional network of excellence (shine) is a public-private partnership with the objective of training individuals in utility scale Solar installation and placing program graduates into skilled employment within the local Solar industry.
Virginia policy & regulatory: sri participated in several stakeholder sessions with environmental advocates, public utilities, government officials, and Solar installers to discuss rate design and battery storage adoption. Sri was critical in collecting comments from the local industry and synthesizing feedback from firms across the commonwealth.
Virginia land use: sri led a series of working groups with representatives from local jurisdictions to discuss the financial and environmental. Impacts of utility-scale Solar deployment and options for localities to attain greater tax revenue from projects. Many of these solutions are now being adopted by localities,resulting in greater revenue for services like emergency response and broadband, benefitting hundreds of thousands of virginians.
