Program areas at Sons of the Revolution
Our Library and Museum is open to the public at no charge, offering our unique collection of books, manuscripts and photograph for study and research. School aged children, students and adults, individually and in groups, viewed rotating exhibits, took part in guided tours and utilized the collections during the year to gain further insight, understanding and knowledge of our nation's heritage, patriotic traditions and significant historical events relating to the founding of our country and events in the 19th and 20th centuries. Special events were held during the year involving the public. Patrons made use of our book and manuscript collections conducting research.
We completed additional accessions to our electronic catalog and updated the worldwide OCLC library database. Our catalog utilizes the leading library automation software solution for special libraries. Built on a flexible and scalable backbone with a variety of powerful query and edit capabilities, it is capable of a keyword search across 100,000 records in less than one second. Our catalog includes more than 30,000 titles. We performed conservation activities to promote preservation of books, manuscripts, photographs and artifacts for future generations. During the year, new records were contributed to the OCLC database, representing titles in our collection not found in any of the more than 60,000-member libraries worldwide. These contributions are what make the WorldCat such a valuable resource to people not located near our library, as WorlCat is available at nearly all public libraries and institutions online, providing a catalog of our holdings accessable to them in several languages. OCLC helps us reduce costs and increase library staff productivity. We hosted our electronic catalog on the Internet for the free use and benefit of the public. Our catalog is also available through search engines including Google, Yahoo, as well as on our website.
