The Shop has a vigorous community service donation system granting funds primarily to local organizations that work with women and children. The Shop gave to 10 different organizations throughout the year. Each of these organizations is a 501c3 organization and has demonstrated that their programs match our goal of providing a better life for women and children. We maintain close relationships with each organization visiting their work sites reviewing their financial needs and keeping current on their offered programs. Programs range from scholarships awards low income housing and counseling for homeless individuals food banks utility emergency assistance meals for the elderly senior services special uncompensated hospice services assistance for farmworkers and programs for child care and activities among other services.
The Shop also has agreements with various non-profit organizations who give vouchers to individuals allowing them to shop in the store for needed goods. The vouchers are specific as to the amount that may be used and the items that may be purchased. The Shop processes these vouchers free of charge. It also runs a dress you for success that allows individuals who are seeking employment to find clothing that will allow them to go to an interview and or have work clothing to start a new job. Clients are referred to the Shop by other non-profit organizations. Again this is free of charge.
The Home Health program loans equipment to individuals free of charge. This includes wheelchairs walkers crutches canes commodes bath seats etc. This is popular program and is supported directly by donations from the general public. The Soroptimist Thrift Shop purchases all of the equipment that is loaned primarily using the donated funds that are received during the year. There is a large inventory of items available to be borrowed. Items can be kept by the individual as long as needed and then returned to the Shop. When returned the items are cleaned and returned to inventory so that they may be borrowed again in the future.
