The mission of the Association is to be the effective voice of action in all aspects of producing and marketing agricultural crops, including the promotion of agricultural research and education of members with an ultimate motive to foster a more stable agriculture for the state of South Dakota. Maintain and make available to the public sources of high quality seed varieties and propagation materials after development.

Program areas at South Dakota Crop Improvment Association

Seed certification is a primary function of the Association. The Association inspects seed producers' fields and seed processors' facilities to ensure that certified seed is grown and handled properly. The Association collects sales fees and royalties when certified seed is sold in the state of South Dakota. The Association also collects from and remits these fees and royalties to similar organizations in neighboring states to South Dakota.
