Program areas at South Florida Haiti Project
Education - over 350 children, grades pre-k through 13th, had the opportunity of education at bon samaritan school in bondeau, Haiti through sfhp funding to support school expenses which helps keep tuition low for the area's impoverished families. 70,999 was given to the community leadership in monthly increments of 5,461 plus a 13th month of 5,461 (a standard benefit in Haiti). Education is the core service of sfhp. Three literacy classes for adults & older teens were supported with 3,600 of funding. Teacher training program began in december with diagnostic, then 3 days in-person training for all teachers and administrators of bon samaritan school contracted organization (p4h) at cost of 13,599. 1,000 sent in september for school supplies .
Food support - since 2008, sfhp's goal has been to provide lunch for each child & teachers during the school year. Our annual food packing event was held in february with over 300 volunteers assembling rice & bean packages fortified with vitamins, soy, and dried vegetables. These packages of 75,000 meals were shipped to Haiti and provide nutritious food feeding 350 students each day. In addition, 300 is wired monthly to support the cost of workers to cook and serve the lunches. Food scarcity has worsened over 2023 to unprecedented levels. Sfhp sent additional funds to purchase food in Haiti.
Earthquake repairexpenses - 75,376 grants issued no revenue the friendship house (formerly called the guest house) was rendered unsafe by the 2021 earthquake, is in the final rebuilding phase with completion awaiting the final 34,678 needed. It serves as housing for 17 bondeau residents and as accommodations for anyone visiting bondeau (mission teams, pilgrims, visiting clergy, healthcare professionals, etc). 5,000 was sent to replace solar batteries for one of the campus inverters. 500 was sent to purchase fans for guest rooms in kay timoun.
Healthcare (school nurse)expenses - 6,200 grants issued no revenue the school nurse at bon samaritan school is funded by sfhp at a cost of 3,600 per year providing the foundation of the school-based wellness center teaching good personal health care, giving emergency treatment to students and the community, and monitoring chronic disease in the community (diabetes, hypertension, etc.). A small clinic space is maintained by the school on campus. An emergency hospitalization of a bondeau girl was funded at 1,600 and 1,000 wired to purchase medications for the community clinic. Christmas dinner party for community - 1,500 no grants issued no revenue each year the community has a party on christmas eve following church service. Each child normally receives a gift of some kind but this year there were no gifts but a festive meal was served for the community due to the lack of food in the community.
