Program areas at Southern States Police Benevolent Association
Legal assistance: the Association provides quality legal services to our members, which includes members that are involved in lawsuits, serious accidents, death in custody incidents, shootings, disciplinary actions and grievances arising out of their law enforcement duties. The Association provides an attorney at the scene of all on-duty shootings or serious injuries, for civil or criminal action arising out of duties, and representation when unfair discipline has occured.
Legislative and political liaison: the Association maintains a professional staff. In addition to their normal duties, various staff members are also registered to lobby for purposes to aid in obtaining legislation beneficial to the law enforcement profession. Information is provided to the Association membership with regards to political activities through chapter and division legislative committees. These activities include political candidate screenings, endorsement of candidates for election, legislative enactment and other interactions with elected officials at the local, state and national levels.
Membership coordination: the Association has helped its members in improving professionalism and in meeting the needs of its members in whatever capacity is needed. Also, if a Police officer is killed, an accidental death benefit is provided to the member's beneficiaries.
