Program areas at Southold Center for Education
In 2023, Southold dedicated its programs and initiatives to the professional and faith development of college women, young mothers, and professional women in south bend. Until november 2021, our activities were mainly held at 1432 south bend ave. we then moved to a newer Center, larger and more accommodating to the mainly programs we support. Every wednesday and once per month on tuesdays and wednesdays, Southold's staff continued to hold study groups for each of the different age groups. These study groups had a special emphasis on discovering what it means to practice one's christian faith within the ordinary activities of everyday life. These study groups were followed by individual mentoring in which each participant could choose to speak with one of the study group leaders about how to live one's faith in their particular circumstances. for college women, Southold provided weekly cultural dinners and get-togethers for a group of 15-20 college students. Southold also expanded its outreach to mothers of growing families in the south bend area to offer them inspiration and encouragement in their work of building a family culture; to develop skills related to home management and other creative work; and to foster friendships and personal growth. There are currently over 40 mothers and young professional women who have participated in one-day retreats, and 16 monthly days of recollection. Once a month, 40 grade school girls take part in a club that emphasizes character development and friendship with their peers. With over twenty years of being in south bend, Southold has since provided resources for many women in the area who seek to integrate both core human virtues and spiritual values into their professional work, friendships, and home life. Every year, Southold has the chance to invite many of its alumnae, family and friends to its annual picnic in the fall, which brings over 100 people.
