Program areas at Southwest Sports Wellness Foundation
To provide student athletes with free injury clinics during the fall Sports season, which generally runs from late august until early november. During the clinics a physician or physical therapist exams the student who might have been injured either during a game or practice. To accomplish these objectives during 2023, on a typical weekday an average of 3 students are seen by the volunteers and if necessary, the students receive x-rays or physical therapy and referred to a physician or physical therapist for follow-up exam and/or treatment.
To support student-athletes with access to screening exams for early diagnosis and Sports injuries from participation in co-curricular activities in suhsd, and access to physical therapy care for rehabilitation. To accomplish these objectives during 2023, the Foundation underwrote Sports injury clinics.
To provide fellowships for health care professionals interested in specialty training in Sports medicine and scholarships for studies leading to careers in Sports medicine for students and health care professionals who demonstrate interest in the field, show promise in being able to contribute to the community and have a financial need. To accomplish these objectives during 2023,the Foundation provided nine scholarships to graduating high school seniors whom their teachers/counselors recommended.
