Program areas at Special Olympics Utah

Unified champion schools unified sports is a school and community-based program that brings together children and adults with and without intellectual disabilities onto the same sports team as teammates. Unified sports is focused on promoting social inclusion through sports. Sout currently has over 100 schools and 20 community-based teams providing inclusion sports training and competition to over 2,000 athletes with and without intellectual disabilities.
Health & fitness healthy athletes is a program dedicated to improving and promoting athletes' ability to train and compete in sports. Volunteer medical professionals donate their time to provide six areas of health screening: fit feet, funfitness, health promotion, healthy hearing, opening eyes, and Special smiles. Sout offers, on an annual basis, six to eight community- based healthy athletes screenings for over 1,800 participants.
Sports training & competition Special Olympics Utah takes the lead in coordinating training and competition in year-round season-appropriate sports to over 2,800 athletes. Sports include athletics, basketball, bocce, bowling, cheerleading, cross- country skiing, cycling, dance, flag football, golf, soccer, softball, snowshoeing, softball, and swimming. Athletes can demonstrate their skills in these sports at one of the sixty area and unified champion schools events and seven state competitions.
Competitions the organization sponsors athletes to compete in the Special Olympics world games, the Special Olympics usa games, and Special Olympics north american championship events. These events celebrate the dedication and perseverance of Special Olympics athletes and promote a more inclusive world. In 2022, Special Olympics Utah sent a delegation of 65 athletes and coaches to the Special Olympics usa games in orlando, Florida.
